Apr-16, 2011 The Scout Fair is coming, the Scout Fair is coming!!!

It’s this Saturday from 9am-4pm in the southeastern parking lot at Qualcomm Stadium.

What’s this event all about? This annual community wide event showcases our first-class programs in a fun and exciting way. Cubs, Boy Scouts, Varsity team members, Venturers and Explorers from across our Council join together for a day of good-old Scouting fun!
Scout Fair offers something for everyone … Scouts, siblings, adult leaders, family and friends. There are plenty of opportunities to participate.

Boy Scout troops will have booths displaying Scout crafts and games. Belt loop alley will have an opportunity for the boys to earn belt loops. Cubland has games and crafts for Cubs. Pioneering and Action Adventure has climbing walls, obstacle courses, and monkey bridges. Big fun for all!

If anyone needs a ticket to attend the scout fair they can contact Ben Neill. Tickets are $10 good for the whole family's admission and also contain several coupons to Ralph's grocery store.

Can’t wait to see you all there!

The Dragon Den (Webelos II) went on a hike in Rattlesnake Canyon, Poway. There was a huge rattlesnake. Good lesson in why you never reach or step where you can't see!

Blue & Gold Night Reminders and Help

So, is everyone ready to party? Blue and Gold night is…. NEXT WEEK… can you stand it?! So much fun to be had but, before we party like its 1999, just a few reminders and updates you should all know:

Decorated Cans for Centerpieces: Must be dropped off at the Fenter house by Friday at 5 pm on 2/4.  If you haven’t already made arrangements to do so, please contact Anne Marie Fenter.

Den Pictures for the Slideshow: Please email them NOW ‘cause they’re due.  Now, there are a lot of Webelos and Bear pictures, but, the pack isn’t just Webelos and Bears… hey Tiger’s and Wolves…. We want to see pictures of you all in your natural habitat…

Desserts: Each scout will need to bring a dessert of their choice in a quantity enough to feed their family (be prepared… if I had my way, dessert would be one of the 4 major food groups, so, expect to see me scouting around heheh).

Extra Dinner Tickets: Will be available for purchase the day of the event.  Please bring check or cash.  $7 each and the pack pays for the scout.

Your Purchased Dinner Ticket: You’ll need it to eat! Please don’t forget them at home, they can’t help you there.

Den Skits: If you’re den hasn’t thought of a skit, better do so!  The theme is Resourcefulness.

Lastly…Clean Up Volunteers: We need more clean up volunteers.  Please help us out by staying a few minutes after the event to help put away chairs and tables.  In fact, we expect your scouts to help!

That’s it for now, can’t wait to see you next week. Have a wonderful day.

Collect Cans for Critters

22 April, 2010 – Deadline to submit donations

Our Pack participates in San Diego Zoo’s Cans for Critters Recycling Program again this year. See the flyer.

As of March 12 our pack has collected $172 towards our goal of $500. If you have not yet signed up, please refer to the instructions on how to do this.

Important Dates to Remember:

22 April – Deadline to submit donations via Internet or USPS
22 May – Jamboree Day at the Wild Animal Park

Our goal this year is to collect 400 recyclables (equivalent to $16) per participant by April 22, 2010.  The prize for collecting 400 recyclables is admission to the Jamboree and a Cans for Critters conservation patch.  Participants that collect 1000 recyclables (equivalent to $40) will also get 3 passes to the Jamboree.  Eco-friendly prizes are also available – although they have not yet been determined what they are.  Please see the attached pdf that outlines prize and Jamboree information.

The San Diego Zoo is doing things a little differently this year.  That’s right – the process has gone technical this year.  They’ve asked that each scout/participant register online.  To participate, each scout will need to join our team. The benefits of online registration are abundant - each participant can track their progress online, they can email friends and relatives for support, and we can also track progress as a team. Another change in process since last year: Each parent will need to submit the recycle funds using their credit card (and then reimbursing themselves using the cash obtained from the recycle center).

Blue and Gold Banquet

Friday, February 12, 2009, 6:00pm (setup starts 4:30pm)
Poway Community Center, 13094 Civic Center Dr. Map

100th Anniversary

Invite your entire Family to celebrate Cub Scouting at this year’s
Cub Scout Pack 608 Blue and Gold Banquet!

The menu (back by popular demand) will be catered Mexican food.  Please RSVP with your family number attending to your Den Leader by Monday, February 8th. If you have children in more than one Den please only RSVP for the den you would like to sit with as this helps with table/seat requirements.

The Blue and Gold Banquet is a birthday dinner for the Cub Scout Program. It is held each year in February - the anniversary month of Boy Scouts of America - which was organized in February 1910.  Cub Scouts was organized 20 years later in 1930.

Decorations: Since this is the 100th Birthday, we chose a balloon bouquet craft project from the Tiger book as centerpieces. For those of you that would like to complete this elective with your den, we will provide you with kits (minus the tin cans and construction paper). Please let us know if/when your den will be making the project, so we can coordinate getting you the supplies.

Skits: The proposed program for the banquet is for each den to prepare a skit or song for the evening.

Dessert: We will be doing a potluck for dessert. To ensure there are enough desserts for everyone, Rosie will be contacting the dens to request sign-ups for cupcakes, brownies, etc. This will also be the opportunity to sign-up to bring a dish for anyone in your den has a special need, i.e. vegetarian or gluton-free.

Setting up: We are tentatively planning on setting up at 4:30pm for the dinner (we are double checking the time we can get access to the room), any help we can get will be greatly appreciated

Donations for Raffle: The Bear den has provided legos for the guessing jar and items for the general raffle. If you have a new item or gift card your den would like to donate, just let us know. It has been increasingly difficult to get raffle items from local businesses. If you know of a business that may be able to donate a prize, please pass the info to Bethany or Tracee.

Breaking down: To make cleaning up go faster, the dens will be responsible for a task:

Tigers: Picking up crayons from the tables
Wolfs: Picking up the table tents and clearing the table tops of remaining trash (leave the crayons for the Tigers)
Bears: Fold Chairs and put away
Webelos I: Pick up trash off the floor and sweep
Webelos II: Take out trash
Dads: Folding tables and putting them away
Moms: Fold the tablecloths for use again next year **PLEASE do not throw them away**
Den Leaders To avoid the final clean-up falling on a few we request that you stay to help till the lights are turned out

Midland Carnival
Friday, May 29, 2009, 4:00pm – 8:00pm
Midland School

Every year our Pack helps out at the Midland Carnival by operating a booth, and collecting litter throughout the evening. In addition to helping out the school, Carnival lets the Pack show off our “Cub Scout Pride” and helps recruit new members. For our booth this year, we will again be firing off our water bottle rockets, which was a big hit last year.

So, here is what the Pack needs you to do:

  • Wear your Cub Scout uniform to the Carnival. You can even wear it to school that day if you’d like.
  • Bring your friends and classmates to the booth. Maybe they would like Cub Scouting!
  • Come to the booth at the beginning of your Den’s scheduled hour (see below). And bring your parents! You will spend some time helping other students launch rockets, some time talking to potential new Scouts, and some time picking up litter. Your parents will help keep the launches safe and talk to potential new Scout parents. And you’re welcome to help for longer if you would like!
  • Ask you parents if they can come early to help us set up, or stay after Carnival to help the PTA take down the booths and stage.

Schedule:

  • 4 – 5 pm – Tiger Cubs, and any older boys who can help
  • 5 – 6 pm – Wolf Cubs
  • 6 – 7 pm – Bear Cubs
  • 7 – 8 pm – Webelos Scouts

Jamboree on the Trail (JOTT)

Saturday, May 10, 2008

Scouts Walking Together World Wide

Jamboree On The Trail is an annual day for the World Scout Movement to hike together. All Scouts, whatever their age and wherever they may be in the world, are invited to participate in whatever way they can. Cubs and younger Scouting sections could visit a local nature trail as part of a weekend camp. A Scout Troop might check out a hiking trail while working on badge requirements. A Rover Crew might make a Service Project out of restoring or maintaining a hiking trail. In their own way, everyone will be hiking the same direction: towards a better future through Scouting. JOTT is held on the second Saturday of May each year.

This is your once a year opportunity to participate in a Worldwide Scouting Event at little or no cost. WOW! How often does that happen? You can participate individually or with your group. Let’s get everyone out there and earn the 2008 JOTT crest.

Everyone must complete the form. The dues for next year are $52.00 with Boy’s Life, or $40.00 without. If you just joined the Pack since September then you do not pay the dues. But we still need the form.
You have 3 options to turn in your forms.
  • Mail it to Vickie Beers (address send out in e-mail), or
  • Give it to your Den Leader to turn in, or
  • Bring it with you this weekend and give it to Lori Romero
We also still have T-shirt available. If you are interested you can get one from Lori or Ray Romero this weekend at camp. T-shirts are $13.00 each.
What: Re-charter
When: Due back by December 1, 2006
Where: Den Leader
It’s that time for us to get ready for the re-charter. If you did not get the re-charter form at the Pack meeting, you can get it from your Den Leader. The forms are due back by December 1, 2006.

The form (front & back) needs to be completed by all Scouts, new and returning. The dues for next year are $52.00 with Boy’s Life, or $40.00 without. Those new Scouts that just joined us in September have already paid their registration for next year, but we still need the form.

If you have any questions please contact either Vickie Beers or Lori Romero.

What: Family Camp-Out
When: Friday November 10 to Sunday November 12
Where: Indian Hills Camp, 15763 Lyons Valley Road, Jamul, CA 91935 (map)

We are currently planning our Fall Family Camp-out. This year we will be going back to Indian Hills Camp in Jamul. For more information please visit their website at www.indianhillscamp.com.

Location/Directions:
Indian Hills Camp is located in Jamul off of the 94. Their address is 15763 Lyons Valley Rd (if you want to get directions from Map Quest). From Poway you go South on I-15. East on I-8. Take the CA-125 South. Stay in the right hand lane and take the Spring St/CA-94 East exit. On the off-ramp stay in the center lane, turn left, into the far right hand lane to get onto the CA-94 East. The Freeway will eventually end. At the third street light turn Right to stay on 94 east bound. Go 5.5 miles and turn Left on Lyons Valley Rd. Go 1.5 miles to the first stop sign. At the stop sign, the name changes to Skyline Truck Trail. Go straight on Skyline Truck Trail for 2.3 miles. Turn Right on Lawson Valley Rd. and go 1/4 mile. Make a sharp Left back onto Lyons Valley Rd. Indian Hills Camp is 1 mile on the Right.
Check-in/Check-out and Rules:
Check in time is from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, and from 8:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday. I have checked, and we can not check in earlier. I would suggest that if possible you leave Poway no later than 3:00 p.m. so you could be there right at check-in time to set up before it gets dark. Check-out time is Noon on Sunday. Please do not venture off the camp property. Pets are welcome, but must be on a leash at all times. Campfires are allowed only in the fire pits that are provided. Adults must be with children under 14 at the farmyard and bike track. Bike helmets must be worn at all times on the Camp property.
